Janet S. Swartzel (née Ziemer) Obituary

Finneytown - Janet S. Swartzel (née Ziemer) was born on December 30, 1934, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Harry and Henrietta Ziemer. She passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 91.

Janet was the beloved wife of William "Bill" Swartzel for 69 years; devoted mother of Bonnie Lynch (Robert), Susan Cowan (the late Timothy), and Robert Swartzel (Desiree); cherished grandmother of Michelle Arnold (Jeremy), Rachel Moore (Stephen), Billy Swartzel, Daniel Swartzel, David Swartzel, Anthony Cowan, and Kristina Cowan Zimmermann (Conner); loving great-grandmother of Naomi, Oliver, Juliette, Sadie, Boaz, and Georgia; and dear sister-in-law of Margaret Dargan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet graduated from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, earning a bachelor's degree in music education with a minor in piano and cello. During her college years, she served as Vice President and, later, President of the Phi Beta Professional Fraternity (1955–1956), and was a champion ping pong player.

She taught piano until 1961, was a member of the church choir until she served as organist at Faith Lutheran Church in 1980 through1996. She also substituted at her current church, Christ Lutheran, and volunteered at Drake Hospital, where she played for Bible study. Under Bill's leadership, she accompanied The Finneytown Mothersingers.

Janet was a wonderful homemaker who showed her love through hospitality—especially baking and preparing numerous cookie trays for friends and family during Christmas. She was a Mary Kay consultant for over 50 years and loved the company's guiding philosophy: "God first, family second, career third." She cherished time spent at the family cabin in Pennsylvania, her home away from home. She will be dearly missed.
