Joanne V. (Schuessler) Hopton

 Joanne Verlee Schuessler Hopton

Joanne Hopton was born on October 12, 1931 in Lone Tree, Iowa to Arthur and Edith Schuessler. Following graduation from Lone Tree High School, she attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught school in Olds, Iowa and later moved to Denver, Colorado where she met the love of her life, F. Wayne Hopton. They were married January 2, 1953 and moved to Fairfield, Ohio where they raised five children--Pam, Greg, Terri, Brad and Brian.

While living in Fairfield, Ohio, Joanne served in many volunteer and leadership positions in churches, schools and the city of Fairfield. Joanne was instrumental in the planting of Northern Hills Church of Christ in Cincinnati, Ohio; Fairfield Church of Christ in Fairfield, Ohio; and Fairway Christian Church in Florida. In addition to teaching in the Fairfield schools and working at General Electric Company, she was employed by Standard Publishing Company for fifteen years. In 2002, Joanne and Wayne moved to Del Webb Spruce Creek Country Club in Florida where she was an active volunteer in many organizations in the community and Hospice. After celebrating 51 years together, Wayne, passed away in 2003. In 2012 Joanne moved to Otterbein Senior Life Community in Lebanon, Ohio. She served in many volunteer capacities there.

Joanne leaves behind five children: Pamela (Doug) Jones in Gainesville, Georgia; Greg (Lisa) Hopton in Franklin, Wisconsin; Terri Hopton in Mason, Ohio; Brad (Stephanie) Hopton in Madison, New Jersey; Brian (Traci) Hopton in Mason, Ohio; ten grandchildren: Nathan & Lauren Jones, Brian (Loren), Justin and Eric Hopton, Carley, Ansley and Braden Hopton, and Tyler and Tori Hopton; one great grandchild: Eli Hopton. Joanne also leaves behind two sisters: Donna Bean and Joyce Werden. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, F. Wayne, one brother, Marvin, and her parents, Edith and Arthur Schuessler.

Burial will be private for the family.

A Celebration of her life will be Saturday, May 8, 2021 with visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at Otterbein Senior Life Community, 585 N. State Route 741, Lebanon, OH 45036

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be sent to: the ministry, Mishpachah 348 Western Row Road, Mason, Ohio 45040 –or- Otterbein Lebanon Benevolence Fund.
