Mona Jean Schwer Obituary

Mona Jean Schwer

Mona Jean (Martin) Schwer, age 89, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Covington, Kentucky on November 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine “Marge” (Bucher) Martin.  Mona was raised in her hometown and graduated from Holmes High School in Covington.  After meeting the love of her life, the late Arthur Edward Schwer, Jr., at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, they were wed on November 28, 1953.  Side by side they raised a beautiful family and enjoyed the next 54 years of their lives together until Arthur’s death in 2008. Mona graduated from the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Covington and pledged her professional life to caring for children as a devout pediatric nurse.  Even after moving to a retirement community later in life, her lively, outgoing nature amongst the staff and residents found her crowned with the adoring title of the Resident Ambassador of Ohio Living Llanfair.  From an early age, Mona was an accomplished seamstress and continued to graciously share those talents with Llanfair residents in the form of walker bags, purses, and alterations and her passion for cooking and baking, kept her family and friends in an abundance of homemade soup, brownies, and Christmas cookies. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lorrie Ann (George) Segelken, son David Edward (Catherine) Schwer, extended daughter Carla Jean Kovacs, and her daughter-in-law Diane Yaeger.  Mona was a loving Mamaw to her grandchildren Jennifer Segelken, Elizabeth (Douglas) Bishop, Ashley (Patrick) Corbin, Melissa (Raphael) Asafo-Agyei, Brandon (Sarah) Schwer, and extended grandchildren Diana Kovacs and Ina Kovacs (George Weber), and to her great-grandchildren Oliver & Lucy Bishop, Kylie & Austin Corbin, Emma, Ethan, Mariah, and Jenna Asafo-Agyei, and Leland Schwer. In addition to her parents and husband, Mona was preceded in death by her son, Robert Arthur Schwer and her sister, Patricia Becker. Funeral services for Mona were held privately.  A public committal service honoring Mona’s life will be held graveside on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1:00pm at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Hwy., Ft. Mitchell, KY 41017.  Family and friends are asked to meet inside the cemetery gates 15 minutes prior to the service.  To ensure the health and safety of all those attending, face masks are required. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Ohio Living Llanfair Lifecare Fund, 1701 Llanfair Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45224, the Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Parkway Suite 410, Rockville, MD 20852, or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made on the funeral home website.
